Short Stories & Poetry

Short stories and poetry are both extraordinary difficult forms. For me, at least. In a novel, in a play, a writer can get away with a little sloppiness, a word here or there out of place, an over-long bit of dialogue.

Short stories and poetry are surgical: every word has to be spot-on appropriate, play a vital role in the whole of the piece. It’s scary … and an incredible challenge.
